Review: 41385 Emma's Summer Heart Box

Searching for gems in the azure blue sea inside her Heart Box, Emma is up against a crabby collector!

The heart-shaped box front shows two real-life Friends fans ready for a swimming adventure. Notice the Lavender Seahorse? Rumor is we're getting one this next wave of 2020.

Box back uses the yellow crab as the "actual size" demo for pieces in this set. All 5 of the summer heart boxes from 2019 are along the bottom. All contain Aqua and Vibrant Coral as the correlating colors -- paired with each of their own color combos.

Contents in this hexagonal envelope of a parts vessel are: Instructions booklet, medium Lavender and dark Lilac 6x6 plates, a small and larger non-numbered parts bags. You may notice parts of Emma are in both bags -- so we have to open both to build her.

Small bag of parts contains her head, otherwise not many very rare parts, except the aqua jumper.

Larger bag has the aqua and coral bricks we'll need for the box -- and the lovely printed 2x4 tile with Emma's name. I love it! This was the first time this torso appeared, yet later came in 41397 Juice Truck.
The Aqua 1x6 bricks are only in the 5 summer hearts and first appeared in Elves Emily & Noctura's Showdown (2018). The Aqua 2x4 tiles are also somewhat rare.

From Right to Left: We build Emma first; she doesn't come with a spare hair piece(!) So, per instructions we put the navy helmet and trans blue diver's goggles on her. Then slip the lime green flippers onto her white flip-flops. Next, her sleek JetSki comes together with great coloring of dark purple contrast with yellow. The silver swirls are cute as puffs of jetted air. It's a submersible type, so there's no seat.
Then we add the yellow crab to some "seaweed with coral" and give it that prized trans pink heart-shape-cut gem!

Inside the bottom of the heart box we get busy using the azure tiles to represent the sea (per product description), then surround it with aqua sides. It's good to remember if you're building a container like this to use the slope bricks, as the 2x2 aqua ones here, because they make the heart more sturdy to pick up and handle.

When the bottom is finished, the dark Lilac, Aqua, Coral, and Lavender layers make it quite pleasing. It does look somewhat like an inflatable pool for your backyard.

The lid uses Lavender plates with aqua tiles. Emma's printed name tile has azure blue to tie in with the interior. The graphic is like an Art Nouveau style, like her Art Studio, yet as a watery splash. Of course the coral background succinctly completes the overall color blend.
The underside white shoe slides not only help with connection, they help by making it easier to pick up on a flat surface.

Her Heart Box is complete -- that printed tile is so lovely!

Everything you build with parts in this set -- plus spares!

Emma is circling the seaside pool where crabs like to gather. You can see her swim top has cross-tie bow on the back, and her Aqua capri swim shorts have back pockets. Those bottoms come only otherwise in 41380 Lighthouse Rescue Center; I like the white flip flops.
Of course all these items fit into the heart box (snug for this set, I might add), and when the lid is snapped with those 2 studs -- it's a nice container.

The lovely scroll motif of her swim top coordinate with the printed tile so well. It's these details I enjoy looking forward to in Friends sets.
Now that she has her precious heart gem, she can relax a bit. Such a pretty seaside scene!

Summary:

If you find this gem of a small set at a retailer -- I recommend you snatch it up. The aqua bricks alone are worthy. For me it's the "Emma" printed tile. I just love it and can't wait to incorporate it in a MOC!

Just like the other Summer Heart Boxes that were on Shop-at-Home for only a short time, this is the last brick-built container for now. The Cubes have replaced these. I do like Emma's Cube colors and contents ... just not as much as building these.

Vibrant Coral seemed to dominate 2HY2019 sets for Friends. Seasoned fans may remember the color as Salmon. I was super excited when I first saw it was coming (back) in 2019, yet in person it's not what I had expected. In the instructions booklet, it appears more like I thought it would be. It tends to appear orange in my photos. It seems to change hue depending on other colors in the build. In this combo, it seems more true though.

This entire wave of heart boxes do not "stack" like the first 2019 version did. Not sure why; however, it can be achieved by rearranging the lid's tiles with studs. Or, take it apart and build something new! Old crabby won't mind ;-)
