Review: 41117 Pop Star TV Studio

 
The mega pop star Livi is back for 2016! 
And Heartlake City got its own TV studio this year!
Come see her sing in front of the TV camera or accept a special music award!

In the second wave of 2015, 5 Pop Star sets were released. This year 2 additional sets joined the sub-theme featuring Livi! 

The five Friends have been getting a taste of the glamorous celebrity lifestyle as they spend time with the famous pop star.

Today we are following Livi to the new TV studio in Heartlake City.

Box Contents: 2 Bags, 1 Booklet, 1 Sticker Sheet, & 1 16x16 Plate

In another review I pointed out the new design on the numbered bags. Interestingly, in this particular set I got, Bag 1 has the old design whereas Bag 2 has the new one!

Also, the 16x16 plate in this dark purple is new! Big plates like this in a new color is always fun and nice to have. 

In the back of the booklet is the newly redesigned advertisement page for the Pop Star sub-theme. 


When you open Bag 1, you realize how many black elements there are in this set compared to typical Friends sets. 


If you take a quick look at the contents of the small bag, you may not even know these pieces are for a LEGO Friends set, unless you have noticed the handlebar piece designed specifically for mini-dolls. The majority of what’s inside is black and gray.


Livi is back with a new outfit! As a pop star, she tends to wear rather flashy styles, often with some geometric shapes. Every outfit she has worn so far contains either silver or gold, and average Heartlake citizens don’t wear silver and gold very much.

By the way, this is the first set to feature Livi alone. 

She is all dressed up, so let’s get the studio ready!

First we begin with TV studio accessories.




Onto the cool big dark purple plate, we are now building the studio set.

I have noticed that this turntable piece is used rather often this year. It is included in 41110 Birthday Party and 41114 Party Styling which I reviewed recently, and it’s also used in the small observatory in 41116 Olivia’s Exploration Car. 

Livi’s two signature colors divide the stage floor: magenta and black.


This is the end of Bag 1, at Building Step 17.




What caught my eye as I opened Bag 2 was the two flame pieces in icy colors. 

These cool pieces are not photographed in the main official product image, and many people may not know this set has these two cool pieces. 

The small bag in Bag 2 contains lots of colorful pieces.


With some pieces from Bag 2, we are adding a wall onto the rotating stage.

When the big spotlights get attached to the set, the studio is nearly complete. 


On the reverse side of the wall, you have two backdrop choices; you can slide in the white wall or leave it out, depending on which song Livi will sing next.


The stereos have been set up in the front at Building Step 41, and now Pop Star TV studio is complete!

Then the wall flips to reveal the second side, and now she is about to sing her newest hit song “Girlz”.


41117 Pop Star TV Studio and 41135 Livi’s Pop Star House came out in January 2016 to go with the release of “Girlz 4 Life”, the LEGO Friends’ very first feature-length movie. 


This direct-to-video animated film became first available in late January in the digital download format in the US. It is now available on DVD and Blu-ray as well.
